Hey I was at that show. What happened?

I know that a lot of what I say has been lifted off of men's room walls

Re: free September jix for Muzak and other Texans

What??! But only 10 days from now...I'm not sure if I can swing a trip down on this short notice. I'm going to see what I can work out. Thanks for the heads up!

Re: free September jix for Muzak and other Texans

Really fucking hope I can make this — I will be pissed If my work doesn't let me have the time off (I missed my California family vacation this summer because of their poor decisions—and they owe me big time)

hope it works out, then I would come back on Monday and get to go to Jonathan Franzen reading in Houston—which btw, the character in his new novel, Andreas Wolf coincidentally (and I'm not exaggerating here) totally reminds me of Malky

Re: free September jix for Muzak and other Texans

anyone want to start rumors with "CAN" being in all caps on the last tour update?!!!??

Possible that there are additional shows in either Boston, Seattle, or Portland --  contracts often stipulate that the band can't announce a second show in a given city until the first one's already either sold out or played.

Re: free September jix for Muzak and other Texans

Malky will probably tour EURO only with the Ege Bamyasi members, opening each show solo acoustic Neil Young style, then the CAN set.  Probably 20 dates in Deutschland (Dylan style), and extended Scandinavia, early 2016 through March.

That's my prediction.

Re: free September jix for Muzak and other Texans

These dates are so coastal, come inland Jicksters.

Actually, I can't complain. I've always really appreciated that Malk (and the Jicks) seem to consistently be one of the few indie acts that literally go out of the way to come to the Detroit area on each main tour. The last ten years or so, more and more bands, especially indies, will hit Chicago and Cleveland, maybe even Columbus/Cinci/Dayton, but not Detroit. I honestly can't blame them... if you're shooting west/east or east/west through I-80 or I-70 major stops, getting up to Detroit adds a couple hours in and out and forces you to have sleeping costs for an extra night. But seriously, means a lot to me that Malkmus and Co. have seemingly made a point to keep Motown in the rotation where so many others have understandably skipped out on it.

Same with Minneapolis. We have a solid rep as a music city, but it's not uncommon at all for bands to say "fuck that" and just head west from Chicago. Jicks always seem to find a way up here.

Jix are for the people

Re: free September jix for Muzak and other Texans

Im going for sure !

Last time I tried to check out Malk at Parish during SX like '05, we chilled too long at the bar before getting in line and we completely missed it- so hopefully this makes up for it .

Sorry it didn't work out 'zak :-/

Re: free September jix for Muzak and other Texans

I already had plans to go just north of Austin to Reveille Peak a few weeks after that date for a quick mountain bike getaway/camping trip. Just can't swing two consecutive trips down there right now, unfortunately. It will be worth it to miss the show, though. They have the gnar at Reveille. smile

Re: free September jix for Muzak and other Texans

I do road bikes too, but it's just not near as fun. It's more punishment without much payoff, especially on the long rides. Plus, the people around here are so fucking inconvenienced that you are holding them up 30 seconds until they can pass that sometimes I'm afraid for my life. I pretty much only do road with a group of people and far outside the city unless I'm doing a paved bike path, which I'm fortunate enough to have outside my front door. Our mayor is a cyclist so she has built little bike highways away from the roadways and all the way around the city which will soon connect all the way to Dallas. The only problem with the bike paths, however, is there's almost no elevation change. I like to ride up hills because I'm a masochist.

This has turned into the fitness board tongue

Yeah, I do road just as a way to get around. Try to stay on bike paths, definitely. It's more entertaining than driving a car to work, and takes me only about 5 minutes longer (i'm on a path with bridges, i get to blow by people waiting in long lines at stop lights).

Minneapolis was the only US city on a worldwide list of most "bike friendly" cities -- we have bike lanes everywhere, but there are still major problems with the way bikes are treated on the roads. It ranges from impatient idiots who think they own the road and that their time is more valuable than mine, to this kind of scary insanity: http://www.startribune.com/police-revea … 321739311/

Re: free September jix for Muzak and other Texans

Now that is just fucked up! I've heard of people yelling "faggot", or the like, to people I know, but I've never had anyone yell or throw shit at me (yet). Although, I make it a point to get over as far as I can to let the cars pass. We have bike lanes in the newer parts of town when new roads go in, but my part of town does not. You guys also have much better weather aside from winters. We have hot or cold and not much time in between. I really want to move somewhere more bike friendly and mountainous...

That's an extreme example, obviously, and scary because the guy doesn't seem to have any motive other than hatred for bikes. Hopefully that's isolated. Almost as concerning are the punk kids who will hide behind trees at night and wait for a solo rider, pop out, knock you off your bike and steal your backpack, purse, whatever. Fucking savages in this town, as Dante Hicks would say.

Re: free September jix for Muzak and other Texans

I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like. It's got a basket, a bell that rings and
things to make it look good. I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.
