if you google squidbillies malkmus you'll see the jicks playing some theme song.  idk what squidbillies is, some adult swim something, but, it's the band and it's recent.

thanks for the heads-up. Sounds cool!

I'm irrationally excited about a 30 seconds of riffage for a theme song of a cartoon I don't know anything about. The little riff-out at the end is great Malkmus tone.

Re: The Official New Album Thread

they probably are waiting until after christmas/new year's so peoples sensory reception is more accomodating for news about upcoming events.  a january 15th announcement might get more press than a December 22nd announcment.
not that i know shit about shit

Very good point.

Jagbags somewhat fell into that. They really quietly started talking about it and the tour late in the year, the album leaked right before the December holiday rush, and the official release was pretty quiet.

Re: The Official New Album Thread

The other day at the park Stick Figures came on randomly — was a bit ominous to me and only to me . . . I just chalk that up to someone at Matador doing a good job

Though, frontwards from 917 video comes on now and I’m pretty sure that’s on some kids spot playlist (I’m not rlly into that video)

Some times Crook Rain comes on also and I’m not sure how . . . But when Silence Kit comes on it’s like BOOM (to me atleast)

I got my own ify list for the park, but it’s only skate jams and Pretty Girls Makes Graves song for good measure (future video part song ??) suffice to say, no J.J. Jicks, Pave or Joos on it, and I’m sure you would understand why . . .

Edit/ if someone put a gun to my head I would probably  put on . . . . .  at&t

Re: The Official New Album Thread

AT&T would be a great skate video song.

I think my favorite choice of a song in a skate video is when Rick McCrank skates to Le Tigre: https://youtu.be/WrW_-6FJXSA

tried to figure it out on my own , but couldn't hmm

Re: The Official New Album Thread

Buy Early Get Now, the series they did from the late '00s through the mid '10s. Always included some bonus material, plus the "get now" part was that you were able to download the digital copy before the street release date.

I can't remember all the rekkids they did with it off the top of my head, but a few I can recall:

- RET (that came with... the live in PDX LP, or was it Cold Son 10"?)
- Nicene Creeders mega edition
- Yo La Tengo's Popular Songs, and maybe also Fade
- Sonic Youth's The Eternal

And actually, now that I think about it, WZ Sordid Sentinels Ed. might have actually been the first BEGN release.

I don't know if it was the first or not, but it was definitely BEGN and the extras were wicked. Blackout 7 inch, a Steve Keene poster with Cosloy talking about fried chicken or some shit, and a download of the 1994 show from the Palace in Hollywood  which is one of my all-time favorite live recordings now.

The slogan for the promotion was "Wow Out!"

Re: The Official New Album Thread

Jicks' twitter is a-flutter!

i could be way off but i'm sensing perhaps the Malkmus synth album dropping soon? ssoner than the Jicks' album?

or maybe it's just a slow hype train pulling out of the station, ramping up for spring...

Re: The Official New Album Thread

The first one doesn't sound jicky, but the others do. Maybe we're about to get an announcement on both rekkids at the same time!

Jack, are you the one replying to the Jicks tweets with things like, "I’m salivating, chewing on furniture, and pissing on my rug in excitement please?"

touché!

I think Jake is the one recording the videos.

Re: The Official New Album Thread

Is it me or do the twitter clips seem to have just a smidgen of overtly ironic floundering pose? This, from the guy who was kinda swept up by the Brain Gallop practice teaser on Facebook years ago. A slight comment on the futility of marketing music clips on twitter?

Re: The Official New Album Thread

The captions are a little goofy and self-aware, but I don’t take them as ironic or aimed to fool. They’re clearly beginning to ramp up their social media activity as an indicator that a new release is imminent. There’s a new header on the twitpage with a newly-styled typeface as well. I have a feeling there’s an announcement coming next week; if not very soon.
