Re: hey, what's new with everybody?

Any last minute recommendations for Glasgow, the Loch Lomond region, or London? Got tickets to Europa League match between Arsenal and CSKA Moscow (amidst heightened tensions) and the Picasso 1932 exhibit at the Tate Modern, so I'm pretty jazzed about it all

I hear ya, this is why I never go to sporting events anymore, even when I get an offer for a free or cheap ticket to something that I will likely watch on TV anyhow. Watching on TV in high def is usually better than live anyhow, the beer is better and cheaper, and you can still hang out with the fam, read something, do a little work around the house, etc. on commercials and intermissions.

SM though... nah JC, you gotta bite the bullet and head into DC.

eddie, buy this guy dinner if he promises to meet up with you.

do you know the guy in Blankus Larry?

I did a podcast ep with him a few weeks back and he's up in Frederick now after living in Columbia Heights for a bunch of years. Said they even kidnapped one of the alley cats and gave him a nice home up in the country.

not familiar, but i'll check it out.  i've been to the record stores in frederick a couple times, but otherwise rarely go into the downtown area and definitely have not made any inroads on any scene that may exist there

Re: hey, what's new with everybody?

was that when he was touring minor league ballparks?  because if so i think i was there too!

also, as lame as it is i'm not sure i'll make the DC show either.  as i said, my work situation isn't ideal and i don't know if i'll have the same schedule in june as i do now (hopefully not because that would mean i'm still at this job), so i can't really commit to anything atm.  hopefully it doesn't sell out super early and i can figure it out and maybe go.  i haven't been to the black cat in a minute and that was always my favorite club

My hair is turning silver, or maybe it's just white but I like to pretend it's silver, my knees are paying the price of a lifetime of dancing without bothering to warm up or cool down, my kids are grown and out of the house (but, seemingly, not out of my pocketbook any chance they get), and so I'm doing midlife stuff like redecorating my house and oohing and ahhing over little babies when I see them.

I'm bringing Chloë (who will be a recent college grad then) to the Jicks show in DC — anyone else going?

Last night I dreamt I was in DC at a solar conference and it dawned on me in my lucidity that I smelled pot _because_ I was in DC. And then I was like, "I'm in DC, I can get pot!" And then someone gave me some pot as a gift but I had to hold these two big buds in my hand with no place to put them and I was searching all around for an appropriate container for my stash. I woke up and immediately thought, "Hmmm...what are the rules on actually getting pot in DC?" because to outsiders, it's very confusing. Can you just get it somewhere, legit, and not funkified? It's just plain cruel that pot is illegal, at least where I live. I'd love some pot! Tips?

I don’t think DC has legal distribution figured out yet but my friends there use an app called LeafedIn that seems to be huge there. You can probably have it discreetly delivered to your hotel to be honest.

Thanks for the tip. I looked them up online and wow — there's an app for that!

I bet I'm too wussy to use it, though. In spite of the reviews feature and stuff I'd probably be thinking it was like going to turn out like some kind of Craig's listy dial-a-rape with some sketchy drug dealer all up in my crib! wink

I'm sure I'm just being paranoid but...

Re: hey, what's new with everybody?

eddie wrote:

kate h, there are definitely delivery services and plenty of creative ways to skirt the restrictions. The gentleman toker blog has some advice there, and LeafedIn is a good resource. I'll message you some other thoughts before the show (which I'm going to!) This is also a place with some helpful tips and links (Caroline is a friend-of-a-friend) - https://brightestyoungthings.com/articl … e-phillips

Zen - glad you are doing well.

HI JENNY!!!

I'm looking forward to your other thoughts before the show because as I posted to Setya, I'm a bit of a nervous Nellie about ordering weed like it's a double pepperoni thin crust. Especially since I'd likely want to, uh, stock up.

It's so fudged up that something would be legalized yet with every mechanism in place to actually render that legalization relatively toothless.

There was also a WaPo article this week on those nightly pop-ups being raided and the ill-defined nature of where people selling pot fall into the legal system when it is in fact legal to possess (in spite of the need for work arounds). It's so hard to believe how backassward this country is in so many ways. But it's also good to see how Caroline & etc., are activists for what I think is a laudable cause. I feel like we have to be perpetually "on" in this country lest we're assaulted on the rights front at every turn.

Strange times.

If the weather is any good - a walk up Primrose Hill to look over the city from the north side (nearest tube Chalk Farm).
A look around Borough Market (nearest tube London Bridge)
A walk along the South Bank from London Bridge area to Waterloo area - actually if you are going to Tate Modern that is in the middle of this walk.
Tourist bus around the city (if you don't know it).
Jack the Ripper guided walk (Whitechapel area).

I'm taking my kid to shows. He's 15 but just found out he's free to go to any 21+ shows with me.

lately:

Wolf Alice - twas fantastic
Lucy Dacus - also great but he wasn't a fan of the show starting at midnight

Up next: Ghost

I'm recording again and getting better at it.

It's rad reading everyone's news. Like eddie, I don't get to the board so much these days but I think of this place and the friends I have here often. I'm busy working and being a daddy-o. I'd like to have more time to indulge in my three childhood passions - playing guitar, skateboarding and fishing but it's nice knowing those things are always there when there is time, and my boys have shown varying degrees of interest so maybe there'll be more of that as I get older.
I do find lots of time to listen to music though, mainly digitally these days but I have a new thing of playing records whilst doing the ironing. Dadrock.
