Re: Setlist / show review thread

Fattyma4, thanks for posting.

Kite is just stellar. Not sure I can wait until October to catch this live. Hope Sin Taxi is still on the set list by then.

Re: Setlist / show review thread

Last night in Milwaukee, what was played during the encore besides Sin Taxi?

Songs coming and going:

Cinnamon and Lesbians
Share the Red
It Kills
Malediction
Stick Figures in Love
Senator
Sin Taxi
No Tan Lines
Baltimore
Witch Mountain Bridge
Jenny and the Ess-dog
Brethren
Future Suite

Songs staying put:

Out of Reaches
Sparkle Hard songs except for the Brethren/Future Suite swap (still no Rattler or Let Them Eat Vowels)

So that's pretty cool that almost all non-Sparkle Hard tunes were changed (all except Out of Reaches). Wonder how many more are in their bag.

I really hope they do Let Them Eat Vowels eventually. It seems like one they could really stretch out and jam on, like Us.

How did Future Suite sound?

Re: Setlist / show review thread

future suite, share the red and out of reaches... this is all very exciting!

This is almost as good as my last signature.

Re: Setlist / show review thread

I have the Audio uploading, as we speak!

"Shady Lane" was Encore Song #2.

Get stoked! WeezerWes did a wonderful recording, and I made it louder and clearer and all of that other crap.

It sounds great.

Looking forward to it! Unless Weezer wes is a dude named Andy I know we’ll have another tape of this one as well. He’s doing Chicago as well.

Nope. WeezerWes's name is really Wes. So, I guess we've got TWO recordings of BOTH Milwaukee and Chicago. Because, Wes is doing Chicago tonight, as well. I believe.... Hahahaha!

Sweet!

No Soundboards yet. I'm hoping to get one from Detroit, though. No promises, though, as I no longer technically work for the venue.

I might do video of the entire show... Depends on my gf's mood, I think. Haha!

Fun! So very nice of you.

Re: Setlist / show review thread

Thanks for that upload, what an A1 set!
Sin Taxi a rare treat

Re: Setlist / show review thread

Chicago last night. Kite was epic. No tan lines and Shady Lane in encore. Freeze the saints... piano only.

Re: Setlist / show review thread

Also, given previous comments... everyone seemed in very good spirits with lots of energy. Crowd was also great. Not a single annoying person (unless that means I was the annoying person, but I don't think so)

Glad to hear everyone was all smiles in Chi-town.

It'll be interesting to see what other Pavement tunes they work into the encore. I was super excited about No Tan Lines, because A) I love that song, and B) It never even entered the realm of possibility in my mind. Surprises are fun. But honestly I'd rather hear the Jicks play almost any Jicks song than any Pavement song.

Found this vid of No Tan Lines from St Paul. At the end Steven says "Thanks for dealing with inhibitions and our WEAKNESS!"

Maybe I'm wrong but it's been a long time I did not see Post-paint Boy in a jix setlist. Should be really nice to listen to this one live.
By the way nice setlist !

Re: Setlist / show review thread

Damn that's a nice set list in Columbus. Seems like he might have saw the multiple requests for Sin Taxi, dig that. Wonder what things will be like by the time they get to Dallas.

politic ditto

Re: Setlist / show review thread

Man I love that tune “Dark Wave.” Lucky ducks!

Re: Setlist / show review thread

Haven't listened to all the recordings of this tour yet but Sin Taxi was doubly highlighterrific because they turned "part 2" into a kind of heavy, rocking part not unlike that part in Speak See Remember or rocking versions of The Hexx.

It Kills also killed (sorry). It was fuller than the album version in terms of musical accompaniment so the aya-ay bits worked better (I agree with another poster's take that they compromise the song a bit on record). It was also more uptempo I think. Great tune.

I just recently suggested on these boards that Post-paint Boy was among my least favorite Jicks songs, but it sounded great last night. I think maybe I find the recorded version low on energy but that wasn't the case last night in Columbus. I feel a little funny saying this, but it probably is the most Pavement-sounding Jicks song; specifically I think it would fit right in on Watery Domestic.

Solid Silk was maybe the highlight of the night for me. Such a beautiful song. Between live versions I've heard of No One Is, J Smoov, and this, I think Steve's guitar is the best string and/or horn section in the entire ergonomic desk toy rock genre. The song turned into this beautiful, gentle chiming space dream pop between the verses. Loved it.

The band had a little technical trouble with Shiggy and Difficulties. Shiggy was a longer delay, with some problem with Joanna's bass. Steve said he was enjoying it because she usually has her shit together. On Difficulties there was some feedback and a couple starts and stops. Steve remarked that Difficulties had gone so well the past two nights and seemed a little frustrated. Both songs were eventually played and were fantastic because they are fantastic songs.

Kite was a mild letdown for me because the guitar solos/interplay st the end never really took off into the stratosphere like I was waiting for. Still an all-time classic Jicks song.

No Tan Lines is not Pavement's best song, but it was a lot of fun live.

Great show overall, good times were had by all as far as I could see.

Re: Setlist / show review thread

Damn good call on PPB being the most Pavementy Jicks song —

Re: Setlist / show review thread

Post Paint Boy is my boy's favorite Jick's song right now so now I'm going to have to debase myself and tweet at the band to make sure it is on the San Francisco Set List....

Re: Setlist / show review thread

A couple more things.

perfectdepth wrote:

There were some people who must not have had a good time, because as the Jicks were leaving the stage before the encore (I think it was before the encore, not after) Jake said something about people starting some shit. I didn't really hear what he said or see what he was referring to. At one point, it looked like someone attempted to stage dive, but I couldn't see that very well, either. After the show, outside, someone was getting thrown in a paddy wagon. Hope they restrained him adequately for his own safety.

When they were having trouble with Difficulties, Steve said that he hates the lyrics of the second verse.

I was possibly slightly obnoxious in my yelling. Joanna seemingly missed her cue on Refute, and I think Steve belatedly began singing her verse and then she eventually realized and picked it up. After the song I loudly gave her an, "A for effort, B for delivery." I also shouted for Leisurely Poison after Sin Taxi, and Steve explained to the crowd that that refers to poisoning someone slowly or casually, like you might poison your wife when you're not necessarily on a fixed timetable to get it done.

Following Shady Lane, Steve said something about how trying an improvised jam coda on that song would be the whitest thing ever, and also hard to do, and then the band proceeded to kick out a jam to end the show.

I bought a magnetic poetry set. Wanted that caviar shirt but I don't think I would ever wear a white shirt.
