Deepak Chopra, The Third Jesus: The Christ We Cannot Ignore

I'd have to say that this is kind of...eh. He's nothing as a theologian compared to a St. Thomas Aquinas, a Chesterton, CS Lewis, or Tillich. I like Pope Benedict XV1 as a writer (forgive earlier threads, he is amazing!).

But this book is kind of new age fluff in comparison to the heavy hitters of theological thought. Even Autobiography of a Yogi grasps Christianity better.

I was wondering about that, too. Am looking for some novels for Erik for Christmas.

Good enough? It's surely worth reading. I love the aura of works set in mid-70s NYC w/ the crime and urban decay. In that respect the vision laid out on the page was a success.

It got quite a bit of praise, and while I enjoyed the story, it did fall a little short of greatness.  Perhaps I've recently read too many novels structured around a group of intertwined individual stories. (think David Mitchell, The Imperfectionists, Faulkner, A Visit from the Goon Squad...)

For maximum impact pair it with this:

How'd you like Howard's End, kateh? I love Forster. He's one of my very favorites.

i dont under the exact meaning of "dusty tomes" but...

...Wolf Solent was the first of the so-called Wessex novels, which include A Glastonbury Romance (1932), Weymouth Sands (1934) and Maiden Castle.(1936). The latter is set in Dorchester, Thomas Hardy’s Casterbridge, and there are parallels with that earlier work. All the same despite his indebtedness to the Victorian novel and his enthusiasm for Hardy and Walter Scott, as well as lesser figures such as Ainsworth, Powys was clearly a modernist,[10] with affinities also with Dostoyevsky, Nietzsche, Walter Pater, Proust, C. G. Jung, Sigmund Freud, D. H. Lawrence, James Joyce, Dorothy Richardson, and the T. S. Eliot of The Waste Land.
