Re: Watcha Watchin'?

Yeah, as PS said, Paul Auster is good.  Interesting writer.  The last scene of Smoke is brilliant in itself, both the story and the snail's pace zoom in and framing.

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

rhinestone-don't see Lost in Translation, watch the other one.  I haven't seen Pirates, but Lost in Translation was so dull-finicky boring dealing with the circumstances of these relationships in which I am still not exactly sure what drew this girl to this old washed up bastard.  I don't feel like the movie earned it.  Sure, anybody can like anybody, but this young hot ass broad in a hotel in a city I'm sure frothing with american dongs all over the place decides this washed up actor guy with not much personality and a tendency to be boring is what she needs to make a connection in a strange place?  Fuck that!  The movie is obviously straining for realism, yet that is one of the most implausible romances (that is not earned) I have seen for some time.  See the Pirate flick dude!

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

I Heart Huckabees this afternoon.  I really liked this movie despite all the bad reviews towards it.  I'm not saying classic, but WAY beyond most everything else I see in a year.  I think it had a good sense of humor, and wasn't self-serious about itself (which I think some have attributed to it).
Anyhow, Kate H, I like how you stuck up for Jersey Girl.  I faded around midpoint (think I saw it on a plane), but thought it was actually a good flick.  Here was a case of the BenLo media machine saying don't watch it (K. Smith didn't help himself, think he disavowwed himself of this movie.  Dude, disavow yourself of everything since "Clerks" (take partial credit for Chasing Amy)

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

No Tom T, my understanding is that Kevin S. was OBSESSED with making Jersey Girl--it was a pet project. Any flight will make a fella soporiphic, but Jersey Girl rocks! Or 8.9 as The Ella Machine would rate it!

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

I watched part of the South Park movie last night...it's a little old now.

I work hard for the money.

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

kate's only shortcoming is the fondness for kevin smith movies, but really, she should be commended for standing (brazenly, publicly) by her man.

brazilian cable is where bad - not fun-bad, just bad-bad - movies go to die. Today there was a smattering of Alan Quartermaine and some awful mary higgins clark adaptation this afternoon.

I saw John Carpenter's "They Live" on Brazilian cinemax last week. Just atrocious.  This morning I watched the South American Beach Football World Cup Qualifying Finals (take that, Uruguay!)

And tonight, SporTV will probably have a fine selection of Ultimate Fighting Championship highlights for me.

my greatgrandaddy probably really was portuguese, but this doesn't come as a surprise.

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

Hey Eduardo. Alan Quartermaine of General Hospital fame?

One two, dodge, duck, one two! SLAM!

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

I'm really not versed in the spectrum of the American soap opera (but I'm happy to talk about Brazilian soap operas from 1987-1992 or so) I think this Alan Quartermaine is more of an Indiana Jones rip-off. They made two movies, I believe...City of Lost Gold and King Solomon's Mines, maybe?

my greatgrandaddy probably really was portuguese, but this doesn't come as a surprise.

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

Dig deep, that's what I say.

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

Last night I watched "The Ipcress Files"

Anyone seen it?

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

Watching 'Deadwood' on DVD & really enjoying it, cocksuckers.
David Milch is a smart, smart man.

HBO just keeps knocking them out of the park: Sopranos, Six Feet, Deadwood . . . and I've heard really good things about The Wire & Carnivale. SATC was spotty, but when it was good, it was right in there, too.

You're smart, and pretty . . . like a dolphin

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

Six Feet Under is an amazing show...haven't checked it out since the end of the third season though.  That whole series of episodes where his wife was missing nearly gave me a heart attack.

I work hard for the money.

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

Yeah - SFU is fantastic. I could watch for days.

Re: Watcha Watchin'?

'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance'--Western Jimmy Stewart/John Wayne

'A Separate Peace'--pretty bad, but good attempt

'Mansfield Park' --utterly brilliant and the best work of Jane Austen as far as depth, tension and modern issues. Really awesome period piece, political issues, relationship complexities and of course...love.

Oh Hudsucker is a famous movie for all ages
i mean a phantastic movie
for the young
for the old
a classic screwball [i like that word] comedy
in thee vein of some olde Billy Wilder Films
it covers a complete genre outta dem 50's-60's
dem comedy in a huge Industrie Combine
for example a little bit like
"The Appartment"
but diffrent
its filled with love for all dem classics
i see it as a kind of reverence
in the end its a lovestory
yes
the details and the characters make it a masterpiece of modern retro-reverence
stuff
if you watch it you can seefeel all thee olde movies are lurking
round the corner..lurking round the corner..yes
is that right ?
i think yes.
