kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk I'll remember that one for if we get any sun back here again.
Bob, eddie etc maybe don't have power. Send us a telegram folks, best wishes to you all.
i didn't lose power somehow, but pretty much everyone i know did and it may be until friday before it's back up. 100 degrees (or 38 for you euro folks) and no AC is pretty terrible obviously
i also never lost power but then again, my neighborhood never does. it feels like i'm bragging when i say that - at the office today, 2/3 of people haven't had power since friday night.
this is the first bad storm we've had since i've been in my new place, so i think it bodes well that i didn't lose power. i'm still on pepco though so it was probably just dumb luck
After strong storms here Sunday, my place was out of power for 24 hours. Fortunately, I had plans to be somewhere else, so I didn't have to suffer 100 degree weather with no air conditioning.
Many others are still out of power (including most of the area around here, we were lucky), and likely to be until late Wednesday or late Thursday.
It's hot but it's not like it's never been hot before. I think it's mostly just something to lead the news cycle. The bad news is definitely the lack of power out east. That happens here from time to time with storms taking out trees and such but nothing to the extent of out east this time. That seems like a legit crisis but a lot worse things could happen I suppose. I think floods would be worse than having the grid down for awhile on a hot week.
No power issues in my neck of the woods, but definitely the hottest I can remember this area being in my lifetime. Certainly what's on record agrees. Thankfully our house is shaded by a massive tree and that helps out the AC so our electric bill is reasonable. ![]()
It literally hasn't stopped raining for 3 weeks here.
This summer is a fucking disgrace. Just awful.
We've hardly had any rain in the last two months. Grass is turning brown, drought warnings, "no watering: lawns," yippy. 100f+ for nearly a week straight finally ended Saturday. My hair began to smolder at one point; have to remember to use a shampoo with moisturizer.

This is every summer for me.
We've actually had a mild summer by our standards so far.
Yeah, we have had so little rain. And when it has rained, it rains so hard and quickly that most of it runs off instead of having time to actually soak into the soil. We can't bring ourselves to waste hundreds of dollars watering grass, so we're just watering a few of our favorite shrubs and our veggies in the garden.
hey friends. as lloyd said, it's been a pretty typical MN summer here -- save for the weeklong streak of high 90's, low 100's.
we lost power for only 10 hours in the worst storm so far, so no worries there. ms setya called her dad in west virginia a few days ago and he was on something like day 10 of no power -- and also in the process of tending to burning tree on his property. he's an off-the-gridder, so maybe living w/o power wasn't all that strange for him...
For as hot as it's been it's been great growing weather here in MN. We started out with just the right amount of rain until things started getting sketchy during that hot spell but then just when I thought I would have to bust out the sprinkler to prevent the burn we would get an overnight soaker. Contrast that with my uncle that farms 250 miles south west of here in Wisconsin and it's been bad drought like Polka described. I think there will be a lot of crop loss but mother nature has a way of working out.
What does "hot" feel like? And also would be interested to hear about "dry"
Oh this damp, mossy rock, why do I live on you?

Grass is always greener, I suppose. Only time I've been to the British Isles it was sunny and dry for 6 days, and then rained on day 7 as we were in the tax to the airport. ![]()

We do get some great weather, just not in summer. Fifth bad one in a row. Roll on winter!

Did you move to the middle of lake MI? ![]()
Heard this morning that half of IL has been OKd for drought related disaster relief or some such nonsense. No rain in the forecast. Should have gone long on the soybean futures... The dry conditions are good for my golf game, though. Nothing like 350 yard drives (200 yards of roll).

what good are 350 yard drives when you can't stop the ball on the feckin' green?
like table-tops here.
Have you guys tried disc golf? I've taken it up this past year and I quite like it. In fact, I gave all my golf clubs away. It's all the good things about golf, but far less frustration.

I used to play a bit in college. Good times. Toking during rounds was basically mandatory and definitely helped my play. Hmmm... Ok, anyway, I don't know of any courses around here.
